What is Radical Acceptance? Well let’s talk a little about the meaning of Acceptance. By definition Acceptance is the action of consenting to receive or undertake something offered. In reality and as experienced, acceptance doesn’t necessarily or always imply harmony or in agreement with.
Now that we have understand acceptance, let’s talk about how we FEEL when we “accept” something. It’s hella important to acknowledge that your EMOTIONS are Valid. These are true authentic feelings when we’re faced with a situation whether it is challenging, expected, or desired. However, refusing acceptance doesn’t change the current and CAN lead to self-inflicted suffering, pain or heartache.
Radical acceptance is an ability that is perfected over TIME. It is building the tolerance to acknowledge what is, in that moment, while validating your emotions.
While you’re working on mastering this skill, what can you do?
- Breath! The cliché exercise of taking 10 deep breaths really does work.
- Go for a short walk.
- Practice calmness, quiet the mind of racing thoughts.
- Speak a positive mantra.
Personally I like to hold a favorite crystal and find time for a quick 3 minute meditation if possible.
